Derald Thomas Swineford
Derald Thomas Swineford was born March 10, 1908, in Enid,
Okla., and died Oct. 23, 1990, in Chickasha. Derald earned a
bachelor's degree in painting and sculpture and a master's
degree in fine arts from the University of Oklahoma. He
married Mary Good on Dec. 25, 1938, in Norman, Okla. He
began his career in art education by serving in
administrative positions at schools in Oklahoma, Kansas and
Texas. Following a stint in the Air Force during World War
II, Derald became the head of the art department at USAO. He
was serving as professor emeritus at the time of his death.
The artist was recognized in numerous art shows and
magazines, and in 1970, he was named Teacher of the Year.
Some of his best-known works include murals located in
Norman, Enid and Chickasha.
