Elsie MacClanahan
August 28,
1894 – June 17, 1989

Elsie MacClanahan
Elise MacClanahan was born Aug. 28, 1894, in McKenzie,
Tenn., and died on June 17, 1989, in Chickasha. After the
death of her father, Elise and her mother moved to Ft.
Worth, Texas. She was graduated from the Conservatory of the
Polytechnic College, now Southern Methodist University.
Elise traveled to New York City to continue her piano
studies, but when other singers and critics heard her vocal
performances, they advised her to devote herself to studying
voice and diction. Elise studied with masters in New York
City, Paris and Italy. In 1923, she became the head of the
voice department of the Oklahoma College for Women, which
became USAO. She remained at OCW until her retirement in
1960.
