December
26, 1873 – December, 1956

George Evans
George H. Evans was born Dec. 26, 1873, in Warrensburg, Mo.
and died three months after suffering a debilitating stroke
on Sept. 24, 1952. George and his wife, Hazel, had one
daughter, Mrs. Vincent Jones. George attended the University
of Missouri and Harvard University and was a teacher before
entering the newspaper business. He was the publisher for
two papers in Missouri and was associated with another paper
in Enid, Okla. George came to Chickasha in 1903, when
he purchased a half-interest in The Daily Express. He
immediately joined local efforts to improve the new
community. George helped to organize the local Red Cross and
what would later become the Chamber of Commerce, and he
worked to secure the Oklahoma College for Women for
Chickasha.
