Billy Bowen
October
14, 1922 – March 17, 2000

William Leslie Bowen (Billy) was born Oct. 14, 1922, near
Ninnekah, Oklahoma, and died March 17, 2000, in Chickasha.
He was one of ten children born to John and Susie Bowen. He
left school after the eighth grade and farmed for a while.
During World War II, he received basic training in the U.S.
Army and worked as a military policeman transporting German
prisoners of war from North Africa to the United States
where they were housed in POW camps around the country. One
of those German prisoner-of-war camps was located at the
Grady County fairgrounds. Following the war, Billy worked in
the oil fields in Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. In his
later years he settled in the Alex area. He and his wife,
Mary Maxine, had two children together, Linda and Jimmy.
